Fake vs. Original Royal Canin: How to Spot Counterfeit Food in Dhaka

It is a scary reality in our local markets: Counterfeit pet food exists. Unscrupulous sellers refill original bags with cheap loose food and reseal them.
Feeding fake food can cause kidney failure or severe malnutrition. As a loving owner, how do you ensure you are buying Original Royal Canin BD stock?
Here is our 3-Step Authenticity Check.
1. The "Air" Test (The Bag Quality)
-
Original: The bag is vacuum-sealed or tightly packed with very little air. The material feels thick and premium.
-
Fake: The bag often feels "puffy" or loose (filled with air). The plastic might feel crinkly and cheap.
2. The Authorized Importer Sticker
In Bangladesh, legitimate packs usually carry a sticker from the authorized distributor (often 3S Impex or similar authorized agents).
-
Look for a hologram or a distinct sticker with Bangla text detailing the import license.
-
If the bag looks "clean" with zero local import stickers, be unmatched—it might be "luggage party" stock (gray market) or fake.
3. The Kibble Inspection
-
Shape: Royal Canin has very specific shapes. Persian is almond-shaped. Kitten is small and rectangular. If the kibble looks like generic round balls, it is fake.
-
Smell: Original RC has a rich, savory, oily smell. Fakes often smell like dusty corn or nothing at all.
Summary
Don't gamble to save 100 Taka. Always buy from trusted retailers (like Miki Pet Store or established shops in Katabon) who source directly from the importer.
