Summer Care: Keeping Your Bunny Cool in Dhaka Heat

Rabbits are built for cold weather (they wear a fur coat!). They cannot sweat like humans or pant effective like dogs.
In Dhaka, when temperatures hit 35°C+, rabbits are at high risk of heatstroke. Anything above 28°C is uncomfortable for them.
Here is your rabbit summer care survival guide.
Signs of Heatstroke
-
Panting with mouth open.
-
Red ears.
-
Lethargy (lying flat and not moving).
-
Wet nose.
How to Keep Them Cool (Without 24/7 AC)
-
Frozen Water Bottles: Fill a plastic bottle with water, freeze it, wrap it in a thin towel, and place it in their cage. They will lean against it to cool down.
-
Ceramic Tiles: Place a ceramic floor tile in the fridge for 30 minutes, then put it in their cage. It stays cool for hours.
-
Cooling Mats: Buy a gel cooling mat (available at Miki Pet Store). These absorb body heat instantly.
-
Vegetable Hydration: Feed cucumber or wet leafy greens to increase water intake.
What NOT to Do
-
Never shave a rabbit completely (their fur actually insulates them from heat to some degree).
-
Never give them an ice bath (the shock can kill them).
Summary
Heat kills quickly. If your apartment gets hot, give your bunny a frozen bottle and keep them in the coolest room.
