Litter Training Your Rabbit: Yes, It’s Possible!

Most people think rabbits are messy animals that poop everywhere. The truth? They are just as clean as cats!
Rabbits naturally choose one or two corners to do their business. You can use this instinct to train them to use a rabbit litter box, allowing them to roam your apartment freely without the mess.
Step 1: The Setup
-
The Box: Get a large cat litter tray or a specialized rabbit corner tray.
-
The Litter: Use paper-based litter or wood pellets. Never use clumping cat litter (bentonite/sand), as rabbits might eat it and get sick.
-
The Hay Trick: Place a handful of hay inside one end of the litter box. Rabbits like to munch on hay while they poop.
Step 2: Confinement
Start small. Keep your rabbit in a cage or small pen with the litter box. Observe which corner they pee in, then move the box to that corner.
Step 3: Reinforcement
If they poop outside the box, pick up the poop and toss it into the box. This marks the box with their scent.
Step 4: Freedom
Once they are using the box consistently in the cage, let them out. You might need a second box in the living room initially.
Summary
Litter training takes about 1-2 weeks. Be patient, use the "Hay Trick," and say goodbye to sweeping up droppings!
