How to Groom a Persian Cat at Home (Brush & Comb Guide)

Owning a Persian cat is like owning a cloud—beautiful, but high maintenance. In our humid climate, their fur can mat (tangle) incredibly fast.
Mats are not just ugly; they pull on the skin and cause pain. To avoid a shaved "lion cut" at the vet, you need the right cat grooming brush routine.
The Tools You Need
-
Slicker Brush: A brush with fine wire bristles. This is for general fluffing and removing loose hair.
-
Steel Comb (Greyhound Comb): This is the secret weapon. A brush only cleans the top layer; a comb gets down to the roots where knots start.
The Daily Routine
-
Step 1: Use the cat grooming brush (slicker) to brush the back, tail, and chest.
-
Step 2: Use the steel comb to check for "hidden" knots behind the ears and under the armpits (legs).
-
Step 3: If you find a knot, pick it apart gently with the tip of the comb. Do not pull!
Summary
Grooming is bonding. Do it for 5 minutes every day while watching TV, and your Persian will always look their best.
